New Plonsey composition:

"On His Shoulders Stands No One"

Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at the
Outsound New Music Summit,
Community Music Center,
544 Capp Street @ 20th, San Francisco.
Q&A: 7:30, Music: 8:15.

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the sholders [sic] of Giants." -- Isaac Newton.

You are on a train, speeding through a landscape of abstract statues of Giants. As you look more closely at one of the Giants you see that "On his shoulders stands no one."

Plonsey and Goggle Saxophone / Live Art Collective perform at the annual Chapel of the Chimes Garden of Memory, Tuesday, June 21.

Sets at 6 and 8 PM, alternating with the Sheldon Brown Ensemble (5 and 7), on the upper back patio.

New Recordings!

HORTON CLEARS THE FENCE

A set of clarinet improvisations, described as "the missing link between clarinet music produced by man, and that which might be presumed to have been produced by mammal or bird." (A. Fishio) To which we add: "of El Cerrito. Northern Hills region, that is."

KABADDI SEASON

Excerpts from Kabaddi Season (2015), an hour-long dance composition for microtonal saxophones and Roland TR 808 drum machine samples, influenced by Pygmy music, Balinese music, and Ornette, structured according to the principles of imaginary poetic forms and dub.

Not Quite so New:

Plonsey has a new CD out called Football Season.
You can hear bits of it on youtube.

New Monsters' first CD was chosen by reviewer Andy Gilbert as one of the "Best Releases of 2012" Read and hear about it on a clip of the California Report". We're at 3:30.

Here's a more detailed piece from Andy, a very kind preview of a recent concert, in Berkeleyside.

Now there's a new live recording, New Monsters Live at Studio 55, available as MP3.

New Monsters is a quintet led by bassist Steve Horowitz which plays all Dan Plonsey compositions. The lineup: Plonsey and Steve Adams: saxophones; Scott Looney: piano; Horowitz: bass; John Hanes: drums.

Here's an interview with me and Steve in Sensitive Skin magazine about the band.

New Monsters also has an eponymous CD. Here are a few reviews:

A new cassette of music for clarinet and boot: Plonsey and Robert Horton has just been released on the Full of Nothing label: This Humanly Mess. This is the third recording I've released with Robert Horton as: The Imperfect Masters.
Here's a nice review in heathen harvest
